Dog Breed Report – Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen

This information is from Dog Fancy Magazine (October 2010)

Remember that the best way to find pure bred dogs is to go to their rescue groups (http://www.pbgv.org/BreedInfo/rescue.shtml).  Second best is to find holistic breeders – Natural Canines is one great one.

“Enduring cheerfulness and ability to bring out the best in people…” I am already sold on this breed, which I have never treated.  They originally hunted small game in France. Life span is 12 – 16 years and weight is 25-40 pounds.  They have “rare occurrences of low thyroid, eye problems, hip dysplasia, epilepsy, patellar luxation and some sensitivity to vaccines. ” It is wonderful that Dog Fancy Magazine is reporting on vaccine sensitivities.
